Hey everybody! I've just made the cutest set of place mats! I was wanting to make something springy, so I came up with these. I used bright yellow worsted weight yarn for the place mat and then added some spring time appliques. You can use any appliques or other decorations that you want. The great thing about this pattern is that you can decorate it however you want! Here's the pattern:
ch. 56 ( or any multiple of 6 + 2)
Row 1 1 Sc in 2nd ch from hook, *skip 2 ch, 5 dc in next ch, skip 2 ch, 1 sc in next ch; rep from * across. Turn.
Row 2 Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 2 dc in first sc, *1 sc in center dc of next scallop, 5 dc in next sc; rep from *, end last rep 3 dc in last sc. Turn.
Row 3 Ch 1, 1 sc in first dc, *5 dc in next sc, 1 sc in center dc of next scallop; rep from *, end last rep 1 sc in top of turning ch. Turn.
Rep rows 2 and 3 to desired height. (I made a total of 25 rows)
Then I added a simple applique to the bottom corner.
You can use any applique you want! You can find the pattern that I used for the chick applique here.
